NBN Technology Checker

Discover your reported NBN technology, speed potential and network equipment details in one clear connection snapshot.

Technology lookup

Search one address at a time

Search your address, choose the exact premises, then explore all available connection details returned by the provider.

Before you search

The address you enter will be shared with Carbon Comms and Aussie Broadband only to perform this NBN technology lookup. Typing does not send anything; the address is sent only when you choose the search button.

This checker does not ask for or submit your email address and does not save your typed query in local or session storage. Do not enter a person’s name, email, phone number, payment details or identity documents.

Technology, not an order decision
Technology, not an order decision

A result describes the access technology reported for the premises. It does not guarantee Carbon Comms service eligibility, plan availability, speed, installation timing or order acceptance.

If this lookup is unavailable, use the free official NBN address checker. Open official NBN checker .

Connection guide

How NBN reaches different premises

See what the equipment looks like and open a technology for a plain-English explanation. Equipment models and installation can vary by address; an NBN connection box is separate from your Wi-Fi router.

FTTPFibre to the Premises

NBN-supplied connection box The current one-port FTTP connection box is the NBN network termination device. Your Wi-Fi router connects separately. Equipment image: nbn (opens in a new tab)

Fibre runs all the way to the premises and terminates at NBN connection equipment inside or at the property.

Fibre reaches the local area and the final connection uses coaxial cable with an NBN connection box.

FTTBFibre to the Building
Connection layout FTTB fibre terminates at a secure cabinet in the building communications room. Each premises normally connects through a provider-supplied VDSL2 modem. Setup reference: nbn (opens in a new tab)

Fibre reaches a shared communications area in the building, with the final connection commonly using existing copper cabling.

FTTCFibre to the Curb

NBN-supplied connection device The FTTC Network Connection Device powers the nearby distribution point and connects to a separate Wi-Fi modem or router. Equipment image: nbn (opens in a new tab)

Fibre reaches a nearby pit or curb and a short copper lead-in connects the premises through an NBN connection device.

Street network infrastructure This is an NBN street node, not equipment installed inside the home. FTTN premises normally use a provider-supplied VDSL2 modem. Photo: nbn (opens in a new tab)

Fibre reaches a neighbourhood node and the final section uses copper. Distance and copper condition can affect performance.

FWFixed Wireless

NBN-supplied outdoor antenna The outdoor antenna receives the fixed-wireless signal and connects to an indoor NBN connection box. The Wi-Fi router is separate. Photo: nbn (opens in a new tab)

An outdoor antenna connects by radio to an NBN fixed-wireless tower. Signal conditions and local capacity can affect performance.

Eligible remote premises connect through NBN satellite equipment. Products, speeds and installation requirements differ from fixed-line services.
